  • tonight, i was watching...

...a show on TLC about the tallest woman in the world. a story about a 34 year old woman - Yao Defen - who is 7' 8" tall.

    defen_yao6-1

she was diagnosed with agromegaly, a disease resulting from a tumor on the pituitary gland, which pumps out excess growth hormone. at the time of the show, her pituitary gland was releasing 11 times the hormone level more than the average person. her parents were too poor to afford surgery when she was first diagnosed, so her only option for years was to keep growing and join the circus in china (which was a completely abusive experience) to raise money. the disease has caused her uterus and ovaries to shrink, making them nonfunctional. at the end of the show, they were waiting for her condition to get better before proceeding with a 2nd surgery to remove the entire tumor sometime this year. very sad story.
i hope they were able to do it or able to actually do it this year.

  • What a day.
My last day at work. Was given a very nice toast after work when we went out for drinks. Everyone was very supportive.

I do some shopping at Bloomies - got in right as they were shutting down for the night. Leave as the lights and music start shut down.

Decide to look for a starbucks to hang out until joseph gets into the city.

On a street corner looking up nearest locale on the berry and I hear some lady addressing me...

    And then SPLASH.

I look up at the violent hand gestures with water bottle in hand and my entire left arm is soaking with water. Appauled I ask her why she's attacking me with water.

She mumbles and I think I make out that I shouldn't cross the street while looking at the bberry.

I wasn't planning on it! I'm finally free from my abusive job, I'm not planning on endangering my life NOW!!!

After calming myself down by the thought she's just an old grandma who thinks technology is ruining society and killing our youth, I find myself in a starbucks with these few thoughts....

    Only in new york
    And
Someone is looking out for me.

    :)

  • today was a day of challenges

1st challenge of the day - waking up by 4:45am to get into the office by 6:30am.

2nd challenge of the day - trying to get rid of the nearly 1.5 ft. high ice bank behind the audi that i forgot to clear over the weekend (when it was plain snow) with the tip of an umbrella and my boot heels.  couldnt get back into the house for a shovel.

3rd challenge of the day - only getting rid of about 5 inches of ice after 30 minutes of chipping away with umbrella tip and heels

4th challenge of the day - having to gather the courage to just drive over the ice bank even though i thought it was still too high and might damage the car

5th challenge of the day - not cringing and pretty much dying as i hear the back of the car make solid impact on the ground as i clear my back tires over the ice bank. CRASH!!

6th challenge of the day - not dying again when i hear the noise of the front of the car making solid impact on the ground as i clear my front tires over the ice bank. CRASH!

7th challenge of the day - getting courage to get out of the car and see if i just gave reason/cause for joseph to kill me, only to recognize i can't see a darn thing at 5:50am in the morning.

8th challenge of the day - driving to the GWB only to realize joseph took the car's EZPass out over the weekend and thus, waiting in the traffick-ridden cash line

9th challenge of the day - not having road rage on FDR at a lincoln town car livery driver who kept cutting me off and others constantly

10th challenge of the day - trying to finish writing this entry without literally falling asleep at my desk.

    all i know is...

    - i got home from work at 3:30am, woke up at 6:30am

    - got more dressed up than i normally would on a friday because we have a vendor coming in for a presentation and some important meetings, only to realize that i took my "black pumps that stay in my office underneath my desk" home accidentally on tuesday, and will now have to wear my black/green merrel shoes with gray slacks and my black wraparound ALL DAY.  greaaaaat.

    - thought i'd treat myself and WAKE myself up with a triple grande toffee nut latte, only to find out that the starbucks i end up going to has no more toffee nut flavoring.  mocha it is.

    - i walk out of starbucks into the prickly hail (not snow), to feel the pain of an ouchy piece of hail in my eye!

    !!!!!!

    seriously, TGIF.
